SUMMARY:Taste of Norway Lost Arts Festival
DESCRIPTION:Held annually at the Iola Historical Society Complex\, this ethnic celebration features  Norwegian pastry making and lefse making\, along with free samples and items for sale. Additional food and beverages are available on site. Lost Arts artisans ply their crafts\, ranging from basket making\, rosemaling\, blacksmithing\, yarn spinning\, jewelry making\, sewing\, and rug-weaving\, among other lost arts. Children’s activities will take place in the replica vintage one-room schoolhouse\, sponsored by the Sons of Norway’s Norskeland Lodge 5-580 of Iola. \nCountryside Basketry will be here demonstrating Basket Weaving. DESCRIPTION:In this hands-on workshop\, you will create Hazel’s Windowsill Basket – a functional piece featuring a wood base.  You will learn basic basket weaving – how to prepare your material\, measuring\, marking\, start stop weaving with a simple rim and lashing. Step by step instructions will be provided by Barbara. Tools are provided to use. Beginners are welcome. You will leave with a basket made by you. Basket making is wet work\, so wear some old clothes and bring a small old hand towel. \nYou may register HERE with the Arts Hub when available.

SUMMARY:Woodland Pumpkin
DESCRIPTION:You will start out with a wood base. You can make a plump pumpkin or a skinny pumpkin. After weaving you will then add a feather look to the pumpkin. Some will have to take the basket home to finish the feathered look. If you find a antler\, weathered stick or driftwood about 5″ long; we can add it to your basket. Any level of weaver will enjoy this project and all materials and tools will be provided. Beginners are welcome. Basket making is wet work\, so wear some old clothes and bring a small hand towel with a sack lunch. \nWill post the link here to pay (not yet available).
